The November 9th Trash Bash was a HUGE success!  The Scouts Troops, 730 & 2730, lead the Flag Raising Ceremony to honor United States Military Veterans.  They respectfully retired the old flag at the San Martin Lions Club & graciously donated and raised the new beautiful Red White & Blue Flag, in the presence of veterans who attended, including Pattie Beebe and Rich Sotelo.  It was a very emotional event to witness.

Each Trash Bash volunteer was given a raffle ticket (for some fun upon returning) then Team Leaders gathered their Teams, and it was Boots to the Ground from 9AM - Noon... departing for areas most heavily littered: San Martin Ave & Murphy Ave, Monterey Road, Llagas Ave, California Ave & Roosevelt Ave.

It was exciting to have new volunteers as well as those who have helped previously.  We were grateful for the sunny day, and it was fun making new Trash Bash friends!  Afterwards, when everyone returned to the Lions Hall (headquarters), we had a raffle & Teams shared about the most common items collected... the consensus was... numerous small Vodka bottles on Llagas Avenue, and lots of cigarette butts everywhere!  However, the most obvious collected item was 38 discarded tires, mostly from the vicinity of the San Martin bridge!  The total weight of trash collected amounted to 2.46 tons according to Greenwaste. Our volunteers rock!

We want to express our thanks and gratitude to those who volunteered 4-hours of time to 'Help Keep San Martin Clean & Green'.  Additionally, we are so appreciative to:

  •  San Martin Lions Club - for providing the headquarters

  • Greenwaste for donating the 40 cu yard dumpster & some of their staff time

  • Air for Paws (Terry Moriyama), Starbucks (Vineyard Town Center), & Copart, all of which have supported the Trash Bash since 2017 with their donations of Bottled Water, Coffee & Pastries for every Trash Bash event since 2017

  • South County Yard for items donated: orange cones, garbage bags, etc). Additionally, they picked up the 38 tires.
